MEET-THE-BRAND: BM PRO HAUL

Halos!

See, I have ALWAYS had this opinion, and infact insisted on it that BM PRO products ( by top bridal makeup artist Banke Meshida) are expensive.
But when Beautykink (which is the online store )decided to accommodate more indigenous brands, I decided to try it out. Honestly, I was kind of surprised at the pricing and the quality of the products. Lipsticks were retailing for N2200,, i always thought they were around N4000 or something like that. I picked up some items for personal use...

BM PRO LONGLASTING LIPGLOSS
Everyone knows this product, if you do not, wake up!! Banke Meshida herself mad this product popular as seen on her many clients, especially the shade in REDD. It got sold out on the store in less than a week, and we get calls EVERYDAY asking when it will be back in store.
Anyhoos I got mine in Peony which is a gorgeous purple shade because im kinda obsessed with purple lip colors right now

Now this is the easiest liquid lipstick I have used ever. It is soft and easy to apply. It is very pigmented too, and a little goes a long way. It survives all the snacking and drinking and eating, hence the name, LONG LASTING!  Great stuff.
Do I enjoy wearing this lipstick? No. Why? Because it is very very very bad for my DRY lips.Generally, you should moisturize your lips before using this, as with every matte lip color, but my lips are on another dimension, so I have stopped using matte lip colors all together. I now have to gout out with ororo looking lips which I detest, but hey, better than chapped lips

BM PRO MATTE LIPSTICK- CRANBERRY

Now this a really good matte lipstick. It is matte but not drying. And it doesnt sink into lines.  Pigmentation, texture and staying power is top notch, but the application is not as easy an smooth as it should be.
I picked up Cranberry in this which is also a purple shade, but with underlying fuschia tones.
If you are looking for a matter version of MAC Rebel, this is close enough.

This somehow has become an everyday lipstick, with a little gloss over it *rolling my eyes*. I think I have moved on from my obsession with Red and now it is purple. ALL shades of purple.
Gorgeous shade huh?

BM PRO MATTE EYESHADOW IN NAVAL
This is an intense navy blue shade that jumped out at me. Immediately I saw it I thought about smokey eyes. Now because this product is matte i tend to use it to smoke out edges and create transitions, because matte eyeshadows are not the easiest to work with. Most times I tend to avoid using black for smokey, well because it is a no brainer...so this blue shade is a good alternative. You can also use it to line the under eye...it gives you bomb eyes! really.
The eyeshadow pans are bigger than the normal eyeshadow pans, bigger than mac single eyeshadows so you get a lot of product.

BM PRO BLUSH IN EGGPLANT

Yes purple again! For a looooonnng time I have been looking for a matte purple blush EXACTLY like this.
Most times when I buy purple blushes, they never turn out to be what I expected, shade wise and texture wise. But this is a bomb product! See anytime I wear purple lips I use this blush then add a bronzer for warmth and it really comes out stunning. Clean eyes, contour with this blush, dark purple lips....yes bomb!  I used it in this post.....http://blog.olumakeovers.com/2014/05/makeup-lady-million.html
Imagine this shade on a yellow pawpaw! Ah lovely!

BM PRO GEL EYESHADOW BASE

This is my first Gel Eyeshadow Base so i was quite intrigued by it.
The first time I used it was a total mess but I knew there had to be another way. So i decided to use a smaller quantity and I let it dry a little before applying my eyeshadow and Voila! the eyeshadow popped.
The main thing about this base is that it makes the eyehadow stay put for a looooonnnnggggg time. If you get the application right, you will find that, taking off your eyeshadow will require extra pressure..lol. Love this stuff! Nice one!

BM PRO HD FACE CREATOR AND CONTOUR CREAM

Now if you buy makeup as much as I do, or a lot, you will have learned that sometimes the product does not correlate with its name. HD this, MIRACLE that.....all na marketing! Lol so when I saw this one, I was like "hmm wo tun ti gbede o" But I later undertood the "face creator" part

Now this product is simply a lovely creme foundation with a great tone/undertone. Now let me explain what I mean. Years back I learned from Ewar (God rest her soul) about the incredibly gorgeous warmth that Mary kay 607 gives to most dark foundation shades. You will never find me on a job without that shade 607. And I think most people will agree that Mary Kay foundation has one of the best color/shade system for Nigerian ladies. Anyways, I always wanted a shade with so much yellow for myself. Its been long I went foundation shopping, and the ones i have now are darker than my undertone, so when I sweat I look burnt lool. I add this as a base, sparingly, then use my revlon photoready in mocha (which is reddish). The red and the yellow undertones just give me a glow that is beauuttiful. Lol I cannot explain it

This shade is in dark, but my lightning that day was a bit off and it looks so much yellower than it really is. This product is pigmented enough to be used as a concealer for not so seriuos blemishes, and as a creme foundation, or as a corrector/creator like I do and as the name suggests. I really really really love this stuff. Did I mention that it comes in two finishes? matte and cream. So the choice is yours really!

Overall, I think BM PRO has done a great job with her line of products, I also hear that the foundation primer is amazing..I have too many primers for now, so ill try that later...( man no go come die ontop beauty) lool. Packaging is sleek as well, the lipsticks are really similar to mac lipsticks packaging, so are the blushes *side eye*
Would I repurchase, yes.. the blush, the gel eyeshadow base, cranberry lipstick and the face creator for shizzle!!

BeautyKink is an authorised retailer of BM PRO products, you can check it out HERE, we do nationwide delivery!

Hello guys!!
How is it going?

I have a makeup post today! Little by little I am easing back imto my regular posting schedule! Yay!
It has been a while I did a tutorial, one will be up next week!
Anyhoos, today's look is so blueeee! With rosy pink cheeks and a gorge shade of pale pink!! Check out the pics...

Honestly, I never ever wear blue eyeshadow, or any blue makeup whatsoever, because I just do not like blue, I am more of a gold, bronzy, dark typa girl when it comes to eyeshadows. But then I still have to experiment.

As I do with almost every eye color, I did this blue in a gradient. If you look closely there are about 5 blue eye colors there that have been blended to the heavens. It is a habit lol.

I couldnt resist transitioning with purple. Purple is my color and somehow it always manifests in my makeup, most times unplanned.

The highlight of this look for me was the blush and the lips. I love how the blush "sat" on the makeup. Most times what I do is over blush just a little bit then set it with powder and a puff or a kabuki brush.
In my previous post, I mentioned how I dont wear matte lips anymore. This lip color is presently my go -to-no-time-for-makeup lip. I throw in a little bronzer, eyeliner and mascara and I am good to go.
Ah thank you Li'lalli makeup for this!

WORK: BRIDAL- BOLAJI

Hello bellas!
Today's post is a work post.

I had the opprtunity to make Bolaji look glam for her big day!  It was a lovely experience and as usual, I learned a lot. I try to do that on every job and take something new away

Check out the pictures..

So I got to her hotel that morning, and yes there was a huge boil on her eyelid waiting for me. This definitely posed some problems, as boils can be very painful. Someone even suggested we skip eyeshadow, lol I was like "lailai not on my watch" . So she sat through it all, it wasnt easy, boils could be annoying! But I'm glad she did

So I went for a bronzy glowy skin, simple glowy eyes and an ombre lip. I also did a blue color water line to compliment her beautiful blue gele. My graftobian Hd foundation palette keeps amazing me. The color match on Bolaji was amazing

We didnt have much time  but we managed a different lip color for her white gown

Some pictures from her pre wedding shoot we did months ago

Thank you Bolaji for trusting Olumakeovers on your big day! Here's to a happy and great home! And thank you my readers for always stopping by :*

Hello bellas!
How's it going?!
Like play like play, we are already into the 2nd half of the year, how far all the new year resolutions? *side eye* Loool
I have kept less than 40% of mine, but its a start, seeing as I never do.
So if you haven't, you can start now, we still have 6 months left! If I can do about 29% , I believe anybody can do that as well! Amen?? Amen!

For the next 6 months I' m hoping to pay more attention to this blog *rolling eyes* yes I am serious!

Anyway, today's post is a makeup look . I was at the BM PRO shop, and my eye caught this eyeshadow called lace, I tested it and it was lovely and I thought it would go well with the long lasting lipgloss in Hawthrone. But the eyeshadow was out of stock. So I went back home, and rummaged up this one. Unfortunately, it has no name. It was in a refillable pan, and for the life of me, couldnt remember the name, where I bought it, when I bought it and WHY I bought it! *phissh* It be like that sometimes..lol

Anyway, I don't have BMPRO Hawthrone as well, because, I don't buy anything extremely matte anymore ( that's a half lie, because I just got the BM PRO REDD for myself-perks of beautykink.com ha! so amazing) so I decided to mix the Tara Funke Lipcolor and Tara Eyebrow pencil in Dark Brown. Let's just say I am addicted to this combo.

Tara Funke Lip color is a deep red without the orange undertones. I do not know why, I cannot stand the bright reds anymore. the Lady Danger, Pure Reds, Ruffian Red etc are all taking a break...

So long story short, that's how I came up with this look.  I think it is really suitable for a lot of things..

MAKEUP ARTIST 101: STARTER KIT 1- ACCESSORIES

Hello guys!
Welcome back from the long break!! How many of you missed working?? hehehe *covers face* Workaholic Anonymous!

I am continuing with the Makeup Artist 101 series, response last time was good (check here for last post in this series) so I decided to do this post

This was going to be a very very very long post, so I decided to divide it into categories, like tools, face, lips etc..
Today we will be starting off with ACCESSORIES, which will include makeup storage
Let's get started!

MAKEUP BOX AND CASES
So first things first, you will need a place to store all your makeup, especially if you are freelance, which is how most of us start anyway...you will need a very GOOD MAKEUP BOX!
The first piece of advice i'll give is, stay AWAY from the aluminium boxes...most of them look like this...

This is from experience. Most times people go for the  5 layered boxes because.....well I do not know why, i also did the same thing but I do regret it. Truth is you cannot take these tall boxes anywhere!  Asides from that, most of them, even the expensive ones are low quality and they give way so easily, their locks come off, handles as well, at the end of the day, it just really a mess..
My advice is to go for the fabric boxes, which look like this

Because they are made of soft fabric, they are not so rigid and they do not scratch, they are easier to take on travels, either by road or by air ( me no know about water: boat abi ship..lol) The brand that I plan on getting really soon is THE STILAZZI- The Godfather

Sooo many compartments, cup brush holder, plastic trays, transparent bags etc.. It is actually  a combination of the other STILAZZI bags: The Groupie and Gone Topless (with wheels). It costs $550= N95000.. it costs a lot, but good things do not come cheap, and I've learned many times, painfully so that quality will forever trump quantity so it is better to save and buy the good stuff once and for all, than buying crappy stuff like 3 times over and over. By the time you buy one crappy stuff for e.g $200, you might need to replace it every year, and at the end of the day it will cost you more than the good stuff.

THE ZUCA is another favorite among the professionals. The Zuca brand is a specialty brand that deals in high quality bags. They also have special bags for makeup artists, bags for flying etc. This is usually the first choice, if you want to STEP UP your game! They do not come cheap, THE FLYER ARTIST which is one of the types they carry, comes at $355=N62000. chayii!

If these prices are scary, not to worry there are soft cases bags that are usually unbranded that cost from $180-$300, most of them are usually like this.  Also House of Tara also has their own soft case makeup case btwn N40,000-50,000 (not so sure of the price currently) which I have seen and I think it is sturdy enough.

The Stilazzi and Zuca should be in stock by the end of August on www.beautykink.com but if you are in a hurry (*rme*) Giftys Daughter stocks Zuca and Stilazzi as well as other brands!

MAKEUP SET BAGS

I think set bags are very important. Especially on sets where you'll have to change locations a lot, or dirty dirty sets. If you are on an open s[ace set, with sand and grass, and it rains, with all the mess, you'll certainly not want to drag your makeup box on the ground! that is here set bags come in, they are usually portable and you can carry them hand bags.

I prefer the transparent ones because you can easily tell 'what is where' at any point in time. Most of them range between $40- $100 depending on the quality and the brand. The see through large set bag is available on www.beautykink.com for just N8500 (currently on sale!) Don't sleep on it! You can also purchase other set bags from MUD cosmetics, like the one in the picture above

EMPTY PALETTES
Zebra - Large Eyeshadow Palette

The only thing I hate about empty palettes is the fact that I did not discover them EARLIER! since I discovered them, I have been obsessed! I always want to depot something all the time! You may not understand why you'll need to depot your products, and separate them from their original package as a starter but, I guess you'll come to see the need later on.
For example, in the Z Palette below, I have all the colors from ALL my SLEEK PALETTES that I use regularly. All these colors came from about 9 palettes! Imagine before I had to depot, carrying about 9 palettes of sleek eyeshadow around, just for a few colors, and the worst part was that, i'd still have other eyeshadow palettes to carry along! Now all I do is carry my pink z palette and I know I'll be fine on set!
Trust me, you need this!!

Same thing I need with my BEN NYE empty palettes, I depotted differnt brands of blushes into one palette and this is all I need to carry in my box, save my milani baked blushes and the sleek 3-in-1 blushes.
The 28 empty eyeshadow palette I got from Morphe Brushes holds all my transition colors, crease and highlight colors. I habe different brands in there, black opal, morphe, mac, fashion fair, milani etc

The VUESET palette (right) holds my most used shades of cream foundation, mostly black opal and Iman foundations. The one of the left is a Cinema Secret  empty palette in which I have my favorite concealers: MAC studio sculpt, Milani secret cover and Black Opal stick concealers

Empty palettes do not just help you conserve space and de-clutter your makeup box, they also save you TIME! You already know where your MAC shadowy Lady eyeshadow is if you want to do a dark crease, you know it is with your palette that has all your crease colors, transition etc, you get to do your transition, contouring, highlighting with one palette instead of bending over into your box so many times! same with foundation palettes: you want to highlight the nose, you do not need to bend over to look for a highlight shade, it is already in the foundation palette you used for the whole face! I can go on and on, but base line is, it makes your work and life easier!
Also it prevents petty people from stealing your stuff! yes, people steal makeup artists' stuff. At the end of the day when you are packing, you might not notice that your Black Opal cayenne blush is gone, till you get home, but if it were in a palette with other blushes, you would notice instantly that your blush palette is gone and you can start shouting ole ole ole immediately! ah!! (I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to steal one whole palette though) So yeah, every makeup artist needs empty palettes! Enough said.
Vueset palettes, BEN NYE empty palettes, Cinema Secret Empty Palettes and Z palettes are available for purchase on www.beautykink.com

That's all I have got now under storage!! The next post in this series will be on Accessories 2:  Hygiene and Disposables, before we move on to the main products! I hope at least one person learned something from this!

If you want to see more of the MAKEUP ARTIST 101 series, kindly leave a comment below! If you have any suggestions, questions or comments about this topic, do not hesitate to leave a comment below as well!

Thanks for reading as always!

MAKEUP: OWANBE INSPIRATION- PINK

$

Hello people!! TGIF!!!
Well today is Friday...and tomorrow is whaaaaaat????!!
For a Nigerian lady, who loves to have a good time, dance and eat small chops, tomorrow is not just Saturday but, Owanbe day!! For my international readers ( yes I now have them, don't try me o!) Owanbe is a Nigerian lingo for a party reception with stage musicians and food and all that good stuff!!
I used to be an Owanbe addict, but these days work won't let me. And I might be tired of buying 'asoebi's!!!
Anyway, I just thought you guys would like to see an owanbe look, that could inspire you for any owanbe you've got! The theme is a pink asoebi of different shades, so I also did different shades of pink on the eyes!! Candy floss yanah (I try not to use all these slangs on here, but hey!)
see more pictures of what I cooked up!

With all the dancing and sweating, you want to use a good primer and foundation.. I went the typical way for this look, multicolored eyes and ombre lips with the step step semicircle gele!!

I'm not so much of a highlight and contour enthusiast, but for an Owanbe, you have to give them!! everything!! The whole nine yards!! This is not because of the hot and fine guys that would be clad in their white trad or anything..*cough* Let us go a little off topic here, are Nigerian guys not lucky??!! They get to wear the SAME white trad to every owanbe and no-one will notice!!! And they would still be feeling fresh and takeaway..CHAI!!

If you look closely, I did something different with my brow. I absolutely detest concealer of any kind showing above or beneath the brow. I just hate it!! but here, I did a slight line of lighter concealer above my brow. This is just to define the brow and make it look darker. the contrast helps in making the brow stand out.

This is how cool the eyes are without flash...see the difference. Besides photographer friends have told me that, the best photo is the one without flash...but how i for do now...I am an amateur at this!

REVIEW: THE NEW TARA SHEER POWDER

$
0
0
Hi guys! Happy new month!
How many of us are having jitters about not yet achieving the goals we set out at the beginning of the year?? *raises hand*
it is just crazy how this year is running fast! Haa!

Anyhoo, today's post is a product review. This product was sent to me by the House Of Tara Team in consideration for a review**. The Tara Sheer Powder is their newest product and it kinda compliments their new matte foundations, at least the shade/matching system suggests that. Okay let's do this

The powder is light weight, as the name implies; it is more of a translucent powder. Having used my Fashion Fair transglo for yeeaaars I can say I  prefer translucent powders to the standard full coverage ones.  This powder DOES NOT disappoint!

Coverage: It is very sheer and you won't feel like you have on any major face product. Testing this, I used it alone without foundation. When I used it again, I applied it with a damp sponge just to test its coverage. Surprisingly it was good!
If you have scars or blemishes, and you are the full coverage typa girl this might not work for you, as this provides minimal coverage as far as any translucent powder will take you.

Oil Control: Talking about oil, I do not have a 'dreadful' oily skin, so this was fine. For the typical oily oily skin, you'd have to use this with a primer.

Shade Matching:  I was matched to a TA-14 initially, but I decided on TA-13 because sometimes these powders turn dark after you have been beaten by the Naija sun, and you go from your original color to 2 shades darker! (OK i exaggerate but you know how it is). After using this for 3 weeks, I see that going a shade lighter was not so necessary as it didn't turn dark at anytime.

Packaging: Now this is where I have a problem! OK I'm not sure if these products are already out for sale or I was given a sample product, but as you can see, this product comes with no inscription on it as to WHAT the product is. Is it a lipstick or a mascara? or foundation? At least there should be a label that says Sheer Powder yadayada... Now I cannot remember if it was on its original packaging  (came in a black pack) , but even at that It should com with a product description!

CONCLUSION: If you want a lightweight powder,  want to take a break from full coverage, want a natural looking powder to wear to work everyday, i would recommend this product! And yet again, it is a Nigerian product! I stan for Nigerian brands!

Have you tried this?? Or will ya?? Used any House of Tara products lately? Loving Nigerian brands?? Kindly let me/us know in the comment section below! I love hearing from you guys!!

Till later!

REVIEW / HAUL: BDELLIUM 4PC YELLOW BAMBU FOUNDATION BRUSH SET

$
0
0
Hello guys!

How are we all doing?
Today's post is a review on one of my favorite brands. I have so much to review, as per new haul, so i'll be doing them one after the other.

The BDELLIUM 4PC YELLOW BAMBU FOUNDATION BRUSH SET is a set that contains brushes mainly for foundation/concealer application. Think something similar to the Real Techniques Core Collection.
Bdellium brushes as we all all know ( well if you don't, WAKE HUP! read my review on the 10pc set  HERE) are eco-friendly makeup brushes vegan soft synthetic bristles. The Yellow Bambu series are made of bamboo and ll of the synthetic filaments used in the Green/Yellow Bambu series are not treated with an antibacterial agent. unlike the other brushes in the Bdellium range.

Yes! These brushes are brriigghhht!! I love the color!
But then again , we are not here for the color, so let us get down to business.

 955Y FINISHING

A finishing brush to me, brings everything together. Applying powder, blending powder and dusting off excess products. These brushes can also be used to blend liquid and cream foundation and blushes, but I prefer using them with cream products

The bristles on this brush are extremely soft and fluffy. They are not stiff at all, so you might not be able to use this to stipple your foundation in, just blending.

  953Y DUET FIBRE FOUNDATION

Ever since I fell in love with ELF studio small stipple brush, I have been looking for something similar but with softer and more quality bristles. This brush was the major reason I purchased this set.#

The bristles are evenly and precisely cut and it does a fab job at applying liquid and cream foundation and even concealer under the eye.

957Y PRECISION KABUKI

If you read my previous review on Bdellium 10pc brush set (if not, read HERE) I already raved about the 957 precision kabuki in that set.

This has a shorter handle and makes packing/travelling really easy. I find that this brush buffs foundation and bronzer likenothing I have seen. It is a complete flat top brush and very dense.

#948 FOUNDATION.

I had to touch this brush first before purchasing this product, just to be sure this was going to have any usefulness. I cannot remember the last time I found this type of foundation brush useful. The foundation brush shaped like this in the Real Techniques Core Collection Set is a bit too small and fluffy for me, so when i tried out this one I was pleased with the result.

BUT I don't know if I'm going to be using this brush much, I just do not fancy these stiff foundation brushes.

So there!

CONCLUSION: I love this brush set! Not just for the color! Bristles are soft, handles are sturdy. Typical Bdellium goodness.

BUY THIS: If you want to up your foundation routine and get good application EASILY: if you want small compact brushes to fit in your daily makeup bag or travel case ; if you are a makeup artist in search of good foundation brushes to help with application on your clients.

WHERE TO BUY: Did you know that BeautyKink (www.beautykink.com) is an official retailer of Bdellium Tools here in Nigeria and Africa? Yep! So you can buy this brush set and other genuine Bdellium Tools brushes HERE

MAKEUP ARTIST 101- STARTER KIT 2- HYGIENE AND DISPOSABLES

Hello everyone!
I'm back with the Makeup Artist 101 series on Hygiene like I promised in the last post.

P.S If you do not know, I have a you tube channel now!! Click HERE to see

Today's post is a post most people take rather lightly. HYGIENE.
Believe it or not, some people go months and months before washing their makeup brushes. I am not even kidding. It is just bad. Try as I may, I cannot be coy about this. It is just plain ridiculous!

google.com
BRUSH CLEANERS:

They are so many on the market today, BEN NYE, SONIA KASHUK, MAC, CLINQUE, the lsi is endless. But I wont be giving you generic suggestions today, I will be sharing the things products I have used personally.

The brush cleaner that I use is the STRICTLY PROFESSIONAL  brush cleaner.

This product is so strong. It cleans like magic. The downside is that it has a strong smell. I suffer from Migraine so strong smells make me dizzy and eventually lead to migraine. So I use it once in a while when the brushes need very serious cleaning. I also use it from time to time cleaning off the stubbornest makeup stains. I just dab a little on a wipe and clean everything with it, from makeup box itself to dried foundation.

BUT, you can't use this everyday, that is where this next one come in

DAILY BRUSH CLEANER
For this, I have used the ELF daily brush cleaner and the BEN NYE brush cleaner as well. Then BEN NYE is the better one as it cleans faster and easily.

These are good for makeup artists on set. If you have to work on many people, there are chances you cannot have enough brushes to go around (i.e one per person). This helps so you can quickly clean your brushes before moving on to the next client. this is especially good for lip and eyeshadow brushes. They usually come with spray pumps, so you just have to spray a little amount on your brush and wipe the brush clean on a tissue. Fin!
Buy here and here

BRUSH SHAMPOO
Also, there are many brush shampoos on the market. Most people opt for hair shampoo or baby shampoo. Some people even use dish washer (i do sometimes) which cleans absolutely well.  I personally cannot stand the time these products take to wash my brushes clean, so i just use detergents. YES! The Omo Ariel typa detergent!
I use Detergent + Vinegar + A good conditioner.
Before you say " ahnahn. lailai, oti o", I have been doing this for over 5 years and I have not lost one brush to this method. so yeah dont mind 'dem rules
The only downside to this is that, it could leave your bristles really dry, so a good conditioner is a must. You can even pre oil your brushes before washing, but that never works for me.
This combo cleans better than ANY brush shampoo or baby shampoo or hair shampoo i have come across.  The conditioner i use is the Hairven Conditioner. That stuff is amazing.

99% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL

This is one of the most important things to me. lol. I think you have to have it. Forget the whole scientific ghen ghen name, It is also called RUBBING ALCOHOL. This is quite different from Methylated Spirit. Methylated spirit is mainly Ethanol while rubbing alcohol is mainly isopropyl.

(whenever I had an injury when I was little, I would cover it and pretend for days, for the fear of methylated spirit.. My parents practically always had to hold me down before they could use it on me, one would pin my hands to the floor, the other will pin my legs to the floor. At a point they stopped using cottonwool because while bending over, I would bite them. My father just started pouring it directly on my wounds!! YEKPA!! God I hated that stuff!! )

I digress

This thing is just the best. It cleanses and disinfects at the same time. It is perfect for cleaning and disinfecting brushes in between applications. Just dip your brush in it, swirl around and clean off a tissue, and you are good to go. And it dries PRETTY fast! You can akso use it to disinfect your makeup, eyeshadows, powder, blush, foundation etc

I won.t lie to you, this stuff is hard to find! Before I found it, I was using the normal Methylated Spirit. However after using the Isopropyl. I honestly did not see a difference between the two, But I guess maybe one is harsher that one, I honestly do not know

Hegai and Esther carries this, you can findHERE on their website .

99% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL - 500ml
They specialize in makeup tools and accessories and are really big on hygiene.

DISPOSABLES

Disposables are also important depending on your modi operandi. If you do not santize well enough you definitely need disposables. One that people that for granted are

MASCARA/ LIPSTICK WANDS

DO NOT USE THE SAME MASCARA WAND ON DIFFERENT CLIENTS. Most people will read this and YIMU but it is the truth. Mascaras are the easiest makeup products to get infected. You cant tell if a client has a infected eye. Do you really want to risk it and put that same wand on another client??
It took me a while to get used to this, but I eventually did. The downside to mascara wands is that one wand size does not fit all. So I decided to always keep my favorite wands and always sanitize them.
Also mascara wands double and brow brushes, so win win!

For lipstick wands, I don't remember to use them. Reason being there are lip brushes that can be used and sanitized already, so if you ask me, lip wands might not be so necessary.
Buy HERE

SPATULAS AND PALETTES

BUY HERE
I use spatulas when I need to depot my products into empty palettes. I used to use a normal table knife, but trust me these make your life easier. I also use spatulas when I am on set and I need to create a custom color: like mixing two lip colors together or foundation. That is where the flat palette comes in. Palettes are easier to work with than the back of your hand and they are more professional, to be quite honest. You can mix colors on them and experiment however you like. These to me will be a good addition to your kit and also make your clients know that you are serious and you know what you are doing.

COTTON BUDS, COTTON PADS

Cotton pads are useful when you need to moisturize your clients face and you do not want to use your hand ( no really, which one looks more professional?) Also it comes in handy when you want to use Milk of Magnesia as a primer for your client. This Nigerian weather needs that stuff!
Cotton buds also help you clean out "mistakes" over drawn brows, over winged eyeliner etc. You definitely need this. Best thing about it, it is hygienic on its own: use one and throwaway. I doubt if any client will let you use an already used cotton bud on them. ha!

PROTECTIVE CAPE

You need a protective cape. Period. It catches fall out and prevents unnecessary stress. Your client could actually wear their outfits, at least the top, while you make them up. They do not have to struggle wearing their blouse over their face after the makeup, or you do not have to tie a scarf over their head just to protect the makeup...please do not do that!!
You can even print your brand name on it, just for a little ghen ghen!!

So that's it guys!So hopefully your makeup kits start looking more professional and sanitary small small!
Most of these products can be found on www.beautykink.com and also at your pharmacies!
This is not an exhaustive list! If you have more products, tips please we want to hear it. Kindly leave a comment below!

Gracias!

REVIEW: MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER

Hi guys!!
How is it going?!

Today I am going to be reviewing the Makeup Up For Ever Star Powder.
I got these products because I am always in search for nice pigmented loose eyeshadow, and also you know beauty hype.

So I read about these products a few times, and also came across them in some youtube videos. Makeup Forever says: The Star Powder is a silky powder that catches the light and gives the skin an intense sparkle and extreme shine. Okay this is what I really think...

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER 954

This is a purple color as you can tell from the picture.

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER 954 SWATCH

Swatched, it has some iridescence feel to it.   It is a really pretty purple that shimmers and shows different shades of purple depending on the light. It is soft. and really smooth to apply. The pigmentation is ok, nothing special or spectacular. You might need a primer ( well we use primers anyway!) to get a good long lasting result from this one

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER 953

This is another pretty shade. It is an orange shade that could show as a burnt orange or a very light orange depending on how it catches the light. It is really pretty. i love the shade.

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER 953
Getting the color to show up was another ball game entirely. The color payoff was just ummphh.... With a primer it turned out better, the color popped!

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER (DIAMOND COLLECTION) 969

I was almost giving up on the color payoff of these products sans primer, before I swatched this one.

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER (DIAMOND COLLECTION) 969 SWATCH

As soon as I swatched it. it was 'bam! no we r talketh!' Urgh this color is just so prreeetttay! I haven't seen anything like it actually. It looks like MAC's paradisco  but way more pretty and sparkly. This shade is a pale pink with pretty gold reflectors. However the pigmentation only a bit better than the previous two. But its prettiness makes up for it. lol

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER 917

This shade is a rusty copperish burgundy. And if the other were like, say...6/10, this one is a 10/10. Pigmentation, consistency, shade, texture everything!

MAKE UP FOREVER STAR POWDER 917 SWATCH

The color payoff of this is amazing!! This one you might not need a primer for. The reflectors in this shade are purple in color and they make it so pretty and intense. This is my fav out of the bunch because this how I expect my loose eye colors to be! Pigmented and intense.  No smeh smeh.

CONCLUSION

All the eye colors deliver a different intense finish when used wet. I applied all of them with the BenNye Final Seal spray and I loved the result.

But with the hype Makeup forever receives one would expect more consistency in their products. I googled different shades and saw that some are actually pigmented, so I guess it depends on the shade you pick up. But for $20 a pop, and $25 for the diamond collection, I expected more from these products.

That's it!

I am working on my next video, hope you guys tune in!
Much love

FAVS OF THE MOMENT: September

Hello guys!
Like play like play September ends today, and we move into the LAST quarter of 2014!
It feels unreal.

Anyways today's post is going to show you guys the products I enjoyed using through August/September.
Let's get into it!

                                          SLEEK CREME LIPSTICK- LIQUEUR

I was gifted this by Sleek Studios sometime in May/June I think. I never really used it that much until August. I took this on vacation with me and it was what I used almost everyday.

It is a pretty nude shade with little bit of gold reflectors. It applies smoothly and lasts well for a creme product

IMAN LUMINOUS FOUNDATION IN EARTH 5

I absolutely love this stuff. But I do not use it as a foundation. It is actually a powder product, that can be used wet to give you the coverage of a foundation. I do not know how to use this wet, it usually ends up so messy on my face!

So I use this as an all over glow powder. I used to have an all-over glow powder from Fashion Fair, and this is just as good. I use it on my forehead, apple of my cheeks and my chin sometimes. I also use it all over my face, then apply a tinted moisturizer for a really glowy sheen. I love it.

TARA SHEER POWER

I did a review of this product HERE so I wont ramble much. This is my go to powder at the moment!

BDELLIUM TOOLS 955 finishing brush

I use this brush to apply the aforementioned  Iman Powder as well as other shimmery
products/ It applies them lightly without over applying, if you get what i mean..lol

LILALLI PIGMENT INFUSUION- MODERN TIMES

I did a review of Lilalli sometime ago, check HEREif you missed it .

The Modern Times ashade is a gorgeous burnt bronze color I use on my cheeks for contour or as cheek color itself, depending on the color scheme I am working it. This and my Iman Luminous foundation gives me all the shine shine I can get!

This shade really compliments my dark shade, and I am glad it came with the parcel I was given by Lilalli. I really love it!

ICING LONG KABUKI BRUSH

I came across this brand when I was vacation. and I wanted to buy all the Icing face brushes I saw, I just had to comport myself and I got " face brushes and one double ended eye brush. I should do a review, because they are amazing!

I use this to apply poweder, foundation and blend bronzers and blushes. I like how dense it is! And it is verrry soft. Right now I regret not picking up thir BIG FLUFFY POWDER brush!

NEUTROGENA OIL FREE ACNE WASH

This wash REALLY REALLY cleanses deep. Even without astrigent, your skin feels clean. It also washes makeup easily! Like really easily. Best of all, It doesn't dry out the skin, even with the salicylic acid it contains. This replaced the Tea Tree Wash I used to use, as continuous use of that used to dry out my skin. I have been using this since August and no, it doesn't dry out my skin! And it is cheap too! I posted a pic on my instagram page, I thought I had found this was here in Nigeria, on getting home and look at the two, I realized they were two completely different products! lol!  Now I have exhausted this and I don.t know what to do. Help me :(

CLARINS GENTLE REFINER EXFOLIATING CREAM

I have used a lot of scrubs in my life! But I think this it IT for me! Last bus stop until...
This scrub scrubs well and leaves your face feeling moisturized, soft and supple. I had to look at the ingredient list again to make sure it did not contain mineral oils, But then again, Clarins is a brand after my heart. We have been on this journey together for almost 8 years, and I really trust them!

Most of their stuff work really well for me! Really well. They could be expensive but....they work. And for me, that's all that matters. As long as I can afford it, I won't think twice.

THE ORIGINAL BEAUTY BLENDER

I definitely  need to do a review on this one. This one of those products I just refused to believe the hype and stay away from. But I finally succumbed. This stuff is amazing guys! Like really amazing

I use it to blend my under eye concealer and also the edges of my face makeup. into my hairline. I love it!
If you have been doubting as well, try it! It is a bit costly for ordinary small foam, but it is not just an ordinary small foam, it is amazing!!

So that;s it guys! Anything on the list that caugh your eye? or that you have used before?? please do share!! I also want to know what your favs at the moment are!! Use the comment box below!!

Till later!

REVIEW/HAUL: INGLOT COSMETICS (NOW IN NIGERIA!)

$

Hello beauties!
How is it going??
Even with some stubborn pimples and rashes trying to destroy my face, I can say that I am doing ok...thanks for asking lol

As you can tell I have a haul/review post today! Let's dive right into it

INGLOT IS NOW IN NIGERIA!
Truthfully, before this I have never owned any Inglot product. A few swatches here and there from stores, but I never really bought anything.
So when I saw that the store had finally opened, my thought was 'let's sha go and see, I kuku won't buy anything' But I passed by on several occasions without really dropping by ( I go to The Palms Mall really frequently, really really.. , and I have never stepped foot inside the  MAC store!! I don't know the kind of hate-like relationship I have with that brand, lol)

Anyways, this store I stepped into and right there I knew it was a trap! I wasn't even expecting the Inglot here to have the Freedom System (i.e where you get to choose your shades/colors and customize your palette) so I knew I was in trouble.

See, I rarely buy anything in its original pot anymore, I buy the refillable pan eyeshadows, blushes, powders and even foundation. Because they are cheaper without the pan, and a custom palette can be built! yay Z palettes!! They really de-cluster your kit.
Okay, right to the few things I got...

INGLOT AMC EYELINER GEL

So I have been looking for a good gel liner. I lost hope in the MAC fluid line years back, because that thing dries up like immediately! Years later, just last year actually I decided to buy into the hype of the Wet n Wild Megalast eyeliner, and of course I was disappointed,1 I know many people swear by this eyeliner, but nah..it dried up and hardened in the pot  before I could even use 1/4 of it! And trust me, my makeup is the last thing I am careless with.

Anyway, I saw this at the Inglot store and the very helpful girl that attended to me swatched it for me. It looked good. I decided to buy it, skeptically.
So far so good, this stuff isn't bad. I did a little search on Inglot while doing this post, not until then did I realize that this is a cult favorite that people really talk about. But then again Beauty World and unnecessary hype 'it applies on like a dream' 'you will get 5 hours out of it' HAHA! We are all guilty of this!

This really goes on like dream, really soft and intense. Black! Not the blackest I have seen, but black! And this takes you through the whole day. IT.JUST.DOESNT.BUDGE.
I have to use it for a few more months to see if it dries up or nah, but I have been using this everyday and it hasn't showed any signs of drying up on me.

If this doesn't dry up, then it will be a WINNER! I would definitely repurchase IF IT DOESN'T DRY UP!

INGLOT LIPSTICK- 405

I decided to get a nude lipstick, and as soon as I saw this shade, it spoke to me!

This lipstick is matte, but reasonably matte. And oh I love the texture as well! It feels powdery but it doesn't tug at the lips! If you have extreme dry lips like mine, you would want to exfoliate well before wearing this lipstick, or any matte one at that. But overall, for dry lips like mine, this matte lipstick ticks all the right boxes,

The only problem I have with this product and brand is their numbering system.
No! you do not do anything like that, I can understand foundation, powder and concealer, but not with lipstick, lipgloss or blushes. USE A NAME. NAME your product urghh!! It is easy to say i have BM PRO REDD on, or MAC Candy yumyum or ZARON DUSK on, but not INGLOT 405! What is 405?? I think it is just plain lazy!

Iblot Lipstick 405 swatch
INGLOT FACE BLUSH 55

This is a red toned blush. It is very similar to MAC's Frankly Scarlet which is one of my fav blushes ( yay MAC!)
For a long time I didn't understand why I would spend "a lot" on blushes when all those N200 blushes are also pigmented ( don't lie, you have tried them before!)
I later noticed that they apply well, but turn darker after a while. You know how cheap powders oxidize and make you darker than you are, after a long stay in the sun? yeah same thing with blushes. So since then quality >>>quantity

I have been applying my blushes with stippling brushes for about " weeks now and I must say I looove it! And this particular blush blends well into the skin as opposed to sitting on the skin.
I love this as well! I'm going back for a purple shade I fell in love with, but didn't want to buy just because..lol!

So that is all I got..for now! And I am loving them so far! No regrets whatsoever!

Where To Buy:

Inglot, (just next to shoprite)The Palms Mall V/I
Lipstick: N2800
Blush: 1800
Gel Liner: N2300

So have you tried any Inglot products? Tell us which and why you like them or not!
Kindly leave a comment below!!

I'll talk to y'all laters!

MEET THE BRAND: BOLWIN COSMETICS

$

Hello guys!
How is it going?

I am always excited about reviewing and telling you guys about indigineous beauty brands.
I was told about this brand at the just concluded Beauty Africa Exhibition and conference, by one of their reps and also I was given some of their products for review purposes.
But before I start with the review, first  a little background about the brand BOLWIN.

About Bolwin Cosmetics.

Bolwin Cosmetics is the brainchild of Omowunmi Bolade. The compny strictly focuses on lip based products  like lipsticks, lipliners, lip pots, glosses etc because they believe there is no substitute to lip products. They have about 40-50 shades in the matte texture and also available in creamy and hi gloss textures. They say alll their products are long lasting and they contain vitamin e for healing and soothing of the lips.

Ok on to the review!

LIPSTICKS

I started off with the lipsticks, of course! I was given 4 shades, or better still I was given the opportunity to choose 4 shades, how nice! So I defintely chose shades I was interested in! Here goes..

      BOLWIN VIXEN LIPSTICK

So of course I had to choose a red lipstick! And since I am trying to cut down on matte lip products, I decided to choose this creamy once called Vixen

It is a blue toned red, not too bright and not too dark!

bolwin vixen lipstick swatch

Oh boy! This is so pigmented! And the texture is extra smooth and very easy to apply. This lasted about 3-4 hours, and I had a red tint till the end of the day!

Bolwin 375 vixen lipstick

BOLWIN INSTANT WOW MATTE LIPSTICK

I was really glad I chose this. This is a matter version of MAC UP THE AMP lipstick, and a creamier version of Zaron's TinkyWinky

I really really really love the texture of this one. It is matte but it doesn't feel dry

Bolwin Lipstick Instant Wow Swatch

The shade is a pure lilac color, not the scary pale light lilac color. I really love this, as it is already one of my favs and I have been wearing it a lot. This lasts more than the Vixen as it is matter. It isn't as easy to apply as the Vixen. I had to swipe about 4-5 times to get a full color payoff, but it was a smooth ride from there on out

BOLWIN BUNNY HI-GLOSS LIPSTICK

This particular lipstick falls under the HI-GLOSS Range of Bolwin Lip products.

This is a light brown/corally color, and i picked it because jumped at me. I was immediately thinking brown ombre combinations and also nude looks. I have been using this as well,  and as you can see from the picture, I broke off the lip one time like that, trying to get it quickly on my lips and dash out of the door...lool *restlessness*

This is more of a creme finish to me than gloss, because it has no shine shine to it, as you would expect with anything that has a glossy finish, rather its finish is that of a standard creme lipstick. It apllies VERY smoothly, and the color payoff is good as well. This did not last as long as the other lipsticks I got, but that is to be expected with most creme/glossy finishes.

BOLWIN FILM BUFF LIPSTICK

This kinda has the same finish and texture as the Vixen. It also my favourite lipstick out of the bunch, because NUUUDEEEE!

It is quite pigmented, applies really smoothly, and also lasts for a while without settling into lines on my lips

As you can see it a GORGEOUS nude shade, and trust me every girl needs a gorgeous shade of nude color!

OVERALL
TEXTURE & APPLICATION: Texture is superb. Application is also really good, asides from the Instant WOW which took a lot more effort, the other shades were easy to apply, and were very smooth

PIGMENTATION: I think the swatches tell it all. These are really good in terms of pigmentation, even the Nude colors covered really well as opposed to being really light and giving a ghost look.

PACKAGING: Packaging is sturdy and feels strong. I like the fact that the products have been given names, as opposed to just numbers

 LIPGLOSSES

So I got 3 lipglosses, PETAL, HELLO DOLLY, and BLACK CHERRY. They are non sticky lip glosses with a fair tint of color to them.

BOLWIN LIPGLOSS-PETAL

Blowin Lipgloss Petal- Swatch
Petal is a baby pink shade

BOLWIN LIPGLOSS-HELLO DOLLY

Hello dolly is a gorgeous light brown shade. I have used it for a brown ombre lip color and it came put really nice! I put it just in the center of the lips!

BOLWIN LIPGLOSS-  HELLO DOLLY SWATCH

BOLWIN LIPGLOSS- BLACK CHERRY

I was expecting this shade to be darker, but it turned out a bit lighter than the pack, more of a bloody red shade

OVERALL
TEXTURE & APPLICATION: Texture is soft, thick and not sticky. No ororo or oyel  feel here! Application is good as the lip glosses are soft and easy to apply

PIGMENTATION: asides from the Hello Dolly  which was pigmented, I think the others fell short for me in terms of pigmentation. I know lip glosses are pretty light, that's why I am naturally not a fan. For lip gloss fans, I guess you will find that the pigmentation is ok just like, standard lip glosses.

PACKAGING: Packaging is really simple but sturdy.

LIP PENCILS
I alsolutely loove these lip pencils! They are quite pigmented, and the ones I chose are actually matte.  They have other shades of pencils that are creamier. I also use matte lip pencils as lip colors, and they last really really long! They kinda remind me of Black Opal Pencils. Good stuff!

BOLWIN LIP PENCIL- DEEP PLUM

This is a soft shade, really gorgeous if I might add..

BOLWIN LIP PENCIL- BLACK PLUM!

I have finally found another lip pencil suitable for my MAC Cyber! and probably the Sleek flash A pout in DUKE! I used to a Fashion Fair pencil for my MAC Cyber but it has been discontinued, and finding another prefect shade has ben a struggle! But here came this baby!! yaga!!

I wore this out alone the other day, and the lady at the bank asked me what lipstick I was wearing! she was really surprised when I said it is a lip pencil and also a Nigerian product!
In the swatch below, I applied it a s a lipliner and blended it lightly in to the inner lips

OVERALL
TEXTURE & APPLICATION: Texture is matte. Application is good. I was very impressed with the way it applies seeing as matte pencils sometimes could be difficult

PIGMENTATION:Very pigmented and they lasted really long

PACKAGING: The lip pencils didnt have the brand name BOLWIN on them, which I think is, you know not a very good thing. Products must always represent a brand, and not get lost in other piles of pencils or be anonymous.

OTHER SWATCHES

Bolwin Lipliner in Black Plum and Bolwin Lipstick in Instant Wow topped with Bolwin Lipgloss in Petal

Bolwin Lipliner in Deep Plum +  Bolwin Lipstick in Buuny + Bolwin Lipgloss in Hello Dolly

CONCLUSION:
I must commend the founders of BOLWIN cosmetics as I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their products. Also it is always a good thing to see female Nigerian Entrepreneurs who are trying to add value, in this tough and sometimes unconducive  Nigerian market. I personally look forward to more collections from Bolwin Cosmetics as I think this is an excellent brand. ALL the products have found their way into  my professional kit as well as personal kit!

REVIEW: NYKE LUMINOUS FOUNDATION

Hi guys!

Today I have a review of the NYKE luminous foundation, another Nigerian brand which I discovered at the Beauty Africa Exhibition and conference..
The joy it gives me to discover and review new Nigerian brands! *sigh*
So I was given this product for review at the Beauty Africa Exhibition Conference after I spoke with the lovely lovely lady at The Beautiful Paradise stand. I had never heard of it before so I was excited to try it out

The NYKE luminous foundation is a foundation that can be used dry or wet. Unfortunately the shade I was given , CLAIRE 200, is not my match, so I just use this product as a highlighter, and I have been enjoying it so far..

The powder/foundation applies as a powder when dry and as a full coverage foundation when wet. This product is very similar to the Iman Luminous foundation which I also have, and let me just say this here, the NYKE's texture is better than the Iman one. Mostly because the shimers in it are less harsh and the product its smoother and softer. Let us just say, I was really impressed with texture.
Longevity wise, i cant say much, because I only use this as a highlighter..over other products. I once tried it wet, to test coverage, and it covered real good. It covered up blemishes without concealer, which is pretty good! Obviously I didn't go out with it, because it is way lighter than me!

The packaging is pretty basic, and it comes with a sponge.. that nobody uses

NYKE luminous foundation shade

The image above shows the NYKE luminous foundation right above my blush, as you can see, the shimmers are really soft, and it just has a really lovely yellow glow to it.
All in all, I really like this product, I will definitely cop my shade in it, if I get to test it. It is a really good product! Up Nigeria! Lol
